“TO FIGHT FOR – The Year Of Decision” tells the moving story of five young men aged between 16 and 20. They steal, smoke dope and enjoy getting into fights. They are uncertain, directionless and willing to resort to violence. And now they face the biggest challenge of their young lives: will they end up behind bars or tear down the old walls and break the vicious circle? Two men confront the youths and give them love, providing a positive paternal image and genuine authority.

This is an intense and thrilling documentary on one of the greatest challenges of our age: the transformation of destructive power into creative energy, of self-loathing into self-confidence and the assumption of responsibility for your own life.

ECHO Klassik 2009: TRIP TO ASIA wins coveted trophy!

The ECHO Klassik awards celebrated their 15th anniversary this year and are one of the world’s most important music prizes. Each year, the Deutsche Phono-Akademie – the German Music Industry Association’s cultural institute - honours outstanding achievements and successful performances by national and international artists. The year’s classical music winners include Plácido Domingo, Anne Sophie Mutter, Christian Gerhaher, Daniel Hope and Elīna Garanča, who receives the prestigious award in the "Female Singer of the Year" category.

The ECHO Klassik reflects both the opinion of critics and the appreciation of music buyers. The ECHO award winners are selected by a jury comprising outstanding celebrities from the world of politics, culture and the media as well as the Classic Working Group of the Bundesverband Musikindustrie.

This year the award is presented to BOOMTOWN MEDIA (represented by associates Andrea Thilo and Uwe Dierks, both producers, as well as Thomas Grube, director and producer)

“With their visionary cinema and documentary films RHYTHM IS IT! and TRIP TO ASIA - each with the Berliner Philharmoniker and Sir Simon Rattle - BOOMTOWN MEDIA triggers important impulses with lasting impact for the German Orchestra and musical landscape.” explains the jury in their decision statement. “ Especially RHYTHM IS IT!, the film about a dance project featuring pupils with a migration background initiated an ongoing discussion about the importance of musical education and made follow-up projects of other orchestras possible.“

Awardees of the past include among others the former Minister of Baden-Württemberg Lothar Spät, former director of the WDR Fritz Pleitgen and conductors Kurt Masur and Gerd Albrecht. The award ceremony will be held on the occasion of the GERMAN ORCHESTRA CONFERENCE 2009 on May 12th at the Kaisersaal in Erfurt.

Good start into the new year!

TRIP TO ASIA made it as “Best of Fest” and was the third popular film by audience vote. The 20th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF), which ran from January 6-19, 2009, showcased 208 films from 73 countries and set new records in attendance, which rose to 129,677 attendees up 3% from last year.

Also great news is the nomination of the TRIP TO ASIA DVD for the German Hörfilmpreis. A prize awarded to the film with the best descriptive audio track. This purpose-made track with audio descriptive comments is featured on the TRIP TO ASIA DVD and enables visually impaired people to join the fascinating journey of the Berliner Philharmoniker. The award ceremony will take place on March 19 in Berlin.

Furthermore, we congratulate the TRIP TO ASIA cameramen Anthony Dod Mantle and Stefan Ciupek for the Oscar nomination for best camera in Danny Boyle’s SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. Anthony was the DoP on this production. Stefan was responsible as camera operator. The film already won at the Golden Globes in all four previously nominated categories and is evaluated as promising candidate for the Oscar category Best Picture. In total, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE is Oscar nominated in ten categories!

And what else is going to come up this year?

TRIP TO ASIA will be released in cinemas in the U.K., the U.S., Poland and New Zealand. We are expecting the worldwide release of TRIP TO ASIA and RHYTHM IS IT! on BlueRay-DVD and our new cinema films PORGY & ME and PEACE PUNCH will be released in German cinemas. Parallel we are looking forward to new inspiring projects, like the cinema documentaries STONE | THE BONES OF THE EARTH by Wilhelm Moser and CLOSER TO GOD by the Swiss director Annette Berger, who will both take us to the world’s most mystical places.
