
Simon Stockhausen

Born in 1967 in Bensberg near Cologne. At the age of five, Simon Stockhausen’s musical education began (piano, saxophone, drums, synthesizer, composition), 1980 was his first performance with his father, the composer Karlheinz Stockhausen. His versatile musical work as composer, sound designer and musician include works for the Ensemble Modern, the Biennale and the Cologne Philharmonics, contract compositions for theatres, numerous CD publications with different groups, i.a. since 1982 with his brother Markus Stockhausen or with the 1999 founded formation MIR. Besides that he has engagements as a keyboarder, live-electronic musician and soprano saxophonist i.a. with the WDR-Bigband, James Morrison, Vince Mendoza, Peter Erskine, the Sharoun-Ensemble, Heiner Goebbels and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
His film scores include Schräge Zeit (2004, director: Olafur Sveinsson), We can’t go home again (2006, director: Toshi Fujiwara) as well as numerous collaborations with Amos Gitai (i.a. Berlin – Berlin-Yerushalaim, 1989; Golem – L’esprit de l’exil, 1992; Zirat Ha’Rezach, 1996; Promised Land, 2004; Désengagement, 2007).
