hi, Mr.director!

I really enjoyed your movie. I just loved it.

like what you pointed out at GV session- you wanted to show the members of ochestra, who usually believed as genius ,are just as same as we are - yes, I totally could feel their agony, stress, endless effort for perfection, desire for recognition and tremendous love for music.

that was so natural.. and I guess that's the best thing of your movie.
you said you've edited over 2 years, but it's so delicately elaborated, hard to catch it you were trying so hard!

and my question is..

actually during listening to your answers at GV, I got suddenly curious about why you were getting interested in classical music. you said you were not into it when you were young in Karayan's age.

and is there any specific reason you picked up "Berlin phil." and trip to "Asia" not to america, not to europe :)

last thing, could you tell us you favorite classical pieces?
I wanted to share your intrest..hehe

hope you enjoy staying in Busan.
thank you for your fabulous movie again and take care!

hi,

i'm back with another question..
i understand your plot as

-beijin-start : like members flash back their childhood memories, they couldnt get along with peers, felt like they werent popular and so on..

-seoul-finding out : they found out they are talented and musical things are so easy to them..

-shanhai,HK-agony : even though they are gifted, they're also stressed out and practice so hard everyday..

-taipei-delight : audiences shouted of joy~ wow..

-japan-finish : now you picked up the interviw with to-be-retired player and let us know trainee members were accepted as regular members. another start?

i'm just wondering when you were beginning to film, have you decided all the plots,
interview contents, and according to the plan, pick up the visuals in each cities?
or you just followed every details of ochestra,
after then make the trees of story? if so, how did you do that?
cuz your story is like a some kind of human life cycle..so realistic, natural..

waiting your reply.
thank you! nite nite!

When I was young I was rather afraid of classical music. In my culture it was introduced to me as something for grown ups. Something you are only allowed to talk about when you are a specialist. Something very serious and in a way elite. Back then Sunday concerts on television also created a kind of depressive mood for me - there was a great seriousness which did not look like the musicians where enjoying it - that made me feel tight when I saw and heard it. But I love music and have always loved all kinds of music. When I got in touch with the biografy of Leonard Bernstein, the american composer and conductor, my fear in front of something I didn't know much about transformed into curiousity. Music is a a way of expressing feelings and this is something that has always fascinated me - in any artform. I lost my fear while finding a mentor in Berntsein. His humanity could guide me closer.

and is there any specific reason you picked up "Berlin phil." and trip to "Asia" not to america, not to europe :)

In the film the orchestra is not only searching a musical harmony, but also lookin for a way to bring two sides together which can make our life very hard sometimes. The Ego and the community. When we are looking for inner harmony, for balance between the outside and the inside, but also just balance between the many facettes we have as human beings have inside, Asia is a great inspiration for us Europeans. I feel we can learn a lot for example from Buddhism.

Thats hard because it constantly changes. There is so much to discover! I love Beethoven and Mahler, Bernstein and Barber, Ravel and Berlioz and much more!

hope you enjoy staying in Busan.

It is a mix in between. I had the Hero's Life by Richard Strauss as a red threat. It goes through stages of life. Through the dark to light and understanding. I had the cities and they stood for diferent aspects of the life cycle for me. The life cycle as a constant challenge between the contradictions of the ego within the community. So basically I was inspired by Asia during the trip - with certain perspectives with whom I was looking at the different cities. When I got home I brought full boxes of colors with me and I started to paint a painting with all the elements that I had found. The orchestra, the music, Asia, the interviews - like a mosaic.

cuz your story is like a some kind of human life cycle..so realistic, natural..

waiting your reply.
thank you! nite nite!
